Frequently Asked Questions

Although we aim to be available at the beginning and end of your child’s lesson for any questions here is a list of the questions that we are most frequently asked. If the answer you’re looking for is not below then please send us your question to info@readinggymnastics.co.uk where we aim to get back to you within 3 working days.

Can my child have a trial session?

You are welcome to try out a lesson before signing up for a full course for our Academy classes. Please purchase a trial lesson and fill in your class time and date preference in the comments box. One of our team will the contact you to confirm trial. Due to the demand of our before and after school club classes we request full payment at the time of signing up.

How long will I be on the waiting list for?

Spaces really vary per class. It is common that a few spaces come up per term at most school clubs(only become available when a current member either changes class (day or time) or decides to leave the club.
There is no way of us being able to put an exact time scale on how long your child could be on our contact list for. As soon as a suitable space becomes available we will be in contact via email or phone. Click here to fill in the online waiting list form.

I have received a reminder to book my priority space online but I cannot make payment on time – can I pay at a later date?

Priority booking is available to all existing members the week before viewing week(including school club gymnasts). Priority invoices will always be issued on the 5th week of the term and payment is due within 7 days.
Please note that at the end of that period (so 14 days after the invoice date) your child’s place will no longer be secured and spaces will be offered to children on the waiting list or open to the whole school. This process ensures fairness to the children on the waiting list and secures the sustainability of the club.

If you are a new member payment is due before your first lesson(your space is not secure until payment is made and insurance will not cover you to start).

Please note all fees are non-returnable.

We like to keep admin costs to a minimum so fees are payable by card payment only or cash to the school office.

Can I observe lessons?

Parents are not allowed to spectate during our Academy sessions. Once a term we invite parents in for a viewing week. This date is posted on each courses payment information.

We do not allow parents to watch their child’s gymnastics sessions in after school clubs due to lack of space, however once a term we aim to provide a way of keeping parents updated on their childs progress, whether that is by a viewing week, report or awards testing.

What should my child wear/bring?

Club leotards are compulsory for all of our Academy gymnasts. These are available to order online here and will be delivered to your lesson within one week.
For all of our other classes your child should wear appropriate clothing. Leggings, tracksuit bottoms, shorts and a t-shirt are great and we also recommend our club leotard.
Long hair must be tied back and earrings have to be removed. No jewellery, watches or socks. A water bottle should be brought to each session(no juice please).

If my child misses a class, can I schedule a make-up class or get a refund?

Under no circumstances do we refund class fees. It may be possible to make up Academy classes, however as we limit numbers at classes you will need to ensure that it is ok with your class teacher.

What happens if a class is cancelled?

If we cancel a regular published class date we will always offer an alternative class day, time or date to substitute this cancelled class, this is known as a ‘make-up class’.
If you are unable to attend a ‘make-up class’ a refund will not be applicable.

If circumstances that are out of our control (such as a venue cancelling due to bad weather, a power cut etc) no refund or make-up class will take effect.

What is the pick up/drop off policy for my child?

All gymnasts should be delivered to and collected from within the gym hall and not expected to wait outside, unless you have given written walking home consent on your booking(in the comments box) or given to the school office prior to the class.

What happens if I am running late?

A message should be made directly to the club on 07469924046. A late fee of £10 will incur if a parent is more than 5 minutes late for pick up.

What is the award scheme the children are following?

All our gymnastics classes follow the British Gymnastics award scheme. Gymnasts are tested on these during week 4 of each term. All gymnasts have their own progress awards sheet that they tick off during lessons.

What should I expect from each lesson?

Each lesson should be productive, structured and most of all fun for all gymnasts, regardless of ability. Each lesson is led by a highly qualified and trained gymnastics coach, who is fully CRB checked and insured.

ACADEMY CLASSES: Gymnasts will be warmed up for the first 10 minutes of their session including conditioning and stretching. The main teaching of a recreational class will last 45 minutes. Each class will last an hour.
SCHOOL CLASSES: The main teaching section of an after school club will be taught either as a circuit or as a whole class lasting between 25 and 35 minutes. After school clubs will then have a game, followed by a cool down and the clearing away of equipment. Each class will last either 45 minutes or 1 hour depending on venue.

How much are classes?

Our courses are booked in six week blocks and we provide six courses per academic year. We try our hardest to work alongside the Local Education Authority dates however this may vary due to hall exclusion dates, inset days etc.
School clubs: £5.00/£5.50 per session(depending on venue)
Academy classes: £8.00 per session.
All fees are payable a term in advance, failure to pay fees on time will result in your child loosing their priority space.

How do I sign up?

If you complete the online waiting list form, which can be found on our website, you will automatically be placed onto our contact list and someone will be in contact when a suitable space becomes available.
